On Sunday, the Rajya Sabha passed two of the three proposed bills related to the reformation in the farm sector. These bills were earlier passed in the Lok Sabha on Friday amidst the disturbance from the opposition parties.
The Farmers’ and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, were passed in the Rajya Sabha on Sunday, by voice vote.
Members of the opposition parties raised slogans against the bills. The opposition member of Congress and other parties started protesting inside the Rajya Sabha after the bills were passed.
All of these bills were moved by Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of agriculture and farmer welfare.
Narendra said both the bills are historic and will transform the lives of farmers in India. The Rajya Sabha got adjourned till 9 am on Monday after the bills were passed.
The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, will allow electronic trading of the farmersโ produce. In addition to that, transaction platforms can be set up for enabling direct buying and selling of farm products online.
The second bill, called The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, allows a farming agreement to be created before the production of any farm produces. According to this agreement, a guaranteed price will be paid for the purchase of farming produce.
