The site displayed luxurious VIP tents and offered flight bookings, convincing her to transfer ₹3.78 lakh to an account falsely named “UP State Tourism II.” When she did not receive the promised services, she realized the fraud and filed a complaint with the N M Joshi Marg police station.
Arrests Made: Bihar-Based Gang Busted
In a related crackdown, Mumbai police arrested five individuals from Bihar for operating a fake website that offered helicopter rides over the Kumbh Mela. The gang lured devotees by offering discounted aerial tours, collected payments, and then disappeared without a trace. Victims filed complaints after realizing they had been duped, leading to the arrests.

While precise annual statistics on such scams are challenging to compile, authorities have observed a significant uptick in fraudulent activities surrounding large religious events like the Kumbh Mela.
