Senior Indian off-spinner suffered a suspected shoulder dislocation that got him writhing in pain during a match against Kings XI Punjab in the IPL 2020 on Sunday. Playing for the Delhi Capitals, Ashwin had taken two wickets before being injured in the match and had to leave the field. The captain of Delhi Capitals, Shreyas Iyer, said that although Ashwin is hopeful regarding his recovery before the next match, it all depends on what the physiotherapists say about his conditions. If indeed the suspicion of the injury being a case of shoulder dislocation, he might not play the IPL this season. The loss of a senior and deft player might prove to be difficult for his team-mates.
Iyer said on Sunday night: “I briefly spoke to Ashwin and Ashwin said he will be ready for the next game. But at the end of the day it is the physio’s decision.” He also added that Ashwin is a strong-minded person and the team is hopeful that he will be back for the next match.
This is Ashwin’s first season playing for the Delhi Capital. He played for Kings XI Punjab in the last IPL seasons. On Sunday. He was brought into the field during the Final Power Play over and took the wickets of Kings XI Punjab batsman Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran. After the two wickets, he attempted a dive to stop a single off and hurt his left shoulder, hitting the field with his left side while falling down.
