Anwar Ibrahim aims to form a stable government

Anwar Ibrahim, who is the leader of the Opposition in Malaysia says he has won a parliamentary majority to establish a powerful, secure, and formidable new government.

Mr. Anwar also said that he was granted an audience only with King, however, it was delayed because the King was in the hospital emergency room. He added that he is not going to share information until he visited the King.

Mr. Anwar, who would require the King’s approval to remove the new Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin, further said his help from parliament members “implies that Muhyiddin’s government has collapsed.”

The opposition leader’s comment comes just under 7 months after Mr. Muhyiddin finally won the office well after political instability that led to the fall of the prior government under Mahathir Mohamad.

Mr. Muhyiddin rose to power during March after winning a majority government with the help of that same United Malays National Organization (UMNO), who was ousted in the 2018 elections.
