Actress Payel Ghosh on Saturday alleged that film-maker Anurag Kashyap had forced himself upon her to which he issued a statement that the claims made by Ghosh are “completely false, malicious and dishonest”. Kashyap who has radically opposed the current Government regime has been supported by many from the film industry.
His ex-wife, actress Kalki Koechlin, has penned and posted an open letter to Anurag Kashyap in his defence which says that he has always worked to defend the integrity of women in workspaces and has stood up for her when she faced challenges as a woman in her work place. She called Ghosh’s allegation against Kashyap false.
The actress wrote, “Dear Anurag, don’t let the social media circus get to you, you have fought for the freedom of women in your scripts, you’ve defended their integrity in your professional space as well as in your personal life. I have been a witness to it (…) you have stood up for my integrity even after our divorce, and you have supported me when I felt unsafe in a work environment even before we got together.”
Regarding Payel’s social media accusations, Kalki said: “This strange time when everyone gets to abuse one another and make false claims without any repercussions is a dangerous and repulsive one. It is destroying families, friends and countries. But there is a place of dignity that exists beyond this virtual bloodbath, a place of paying attention to the needs of those around you (…) Hang on to that dignity, stay strong and keep doing the work you do.”
