NLSIU Bangalore decided to call it off from CLAT and conduct its separate entrance exam for admission to its 5-year integrated BA LLB (Hons) program, named National Law Aptitude Test-2020 for which it gave a notification. The NLAT-2020 was held on 12th September.
The Supreme court today, in a judgment, canceled the NLAT 2020 entrance exam and issued directions to keep all the 22 National Law Universities under CLAT which has been scheduled to happen on 28th September.
Professor R Venkata Rao, who has been the former vice-chancellor of NLSIU and the father of an aspirant, had filed a plea challenging NLAT-2020. In response to this, a bench was comprised of Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice RS Reddy, and Justice MR Shah. The bench has decided to cancel the NLAT-2020 and keep CLAT 2020 as the ground for selection into all the 22 NLUs, while also ordering the National Law Universities to begin their academic session by mid-October.
CLAT is indeed a highly centralized admission examination for 22 NLUS IN India for the Undergraduate 5 years integrated BA LLB course and post-graduation course, as well.
On 17th September, the Apex court reserved its judgment on the petition requesting quashing of the notification of NLAT-2020, stated in the September 4th press release about the NLSIU 2020-21 admissions.
On 11 September, the Supreme Court ordered NLSIU Bengaluru should conduct a different exam on 12th September but prevented it from declaring the results and accepting any candidate until the plea is pending.
