Actor Ali Fazal shared the official statement by girlfriend Richa Chaddha’s lawyer saying that she has been an upholder of women’s issues in defence of the allegations by Payel Ghosh against Anurag Kashyap that dragged in her name in it too, on Instagram.
The statement said, “ Our client Ms Richa Chaddha condemns the act of her name being unnecessarily and falsely dragged in a defamatory manner into controversies and allegations being recently raised by third parties.”
Payel Ghosh had earlier accused film-maker Anurag Kashyap of lewd remarks and inappropriate sexual misconduct during 2014-2015. Allegedly, Kashyap had told her that he had sexual encounters with multiple actresses who worked in his movies, including Richa Chaddha. The statement also said, “Our client has initiated appropriate legal action and shall further pursue her legal rights and remedies in law as may be advised in her best interest.”
Resharing the statement on his account, Fazal had written a long note in support of the actress saying that she had stood up for women’s rights multiple times and how she has tried hard to maintain social equality. He also said that Chaddha will not stop voicing his opinions in the face of the patriarchal setups at work within the society today.
Anurag Kashyap has also released a statement through his legal team that said that he intends to use his legal rights and remedies in the best of his interest. People within the industry, including Hansal Mehta, Tapsee Pannu and Kalki Koechlin have stood up in support of the director and credited him for ensuring safe workspace for women.
