Manmohan Singh, who was an Air Marshal, a national war hero as well as a very famous personality in the military fraternity along with, academic community of the region, passed away at the age of 89. He has inhabited the area, having hung up his shoes as an Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Western Air Command.
His earthly remnants are relegated to fire today in the presence of a limited crowd of relatives and service veterans.
Air Marshal Singh had been in the run-up to his selection as Chief of Air Staff, however, it was ignored by the Rajiv Gandhi Administration, after which he has been placed in his articles in 1988.
Appointed in January 1951, he was assigned to the 54th course just at the Air Force Academy. IAF squadrons Number 24. 26, as well as 15, were commanded by him in between July 1962 to February 1972. He also served as the Station commander, while he was the Group Captain when he was placed as Air Officer Commanding Number 1 Wing in Srinagar. He was promoted to be an Air Marshal in 1984.

During the 1971 conflict, he had been in command of the Operational Fighter Squadron throughout the Eastern Region.
As per his quotation, his squadron took 110 trips to Bangladesh performing direct support as well as anti-shipping positions and fulfilled all of its tactical responsibilities without destroying any of its planes. He decided to lead 19 outings and effectively fought enemy defensive lines, gunboats including ships in front of strong ground fire.
