The 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case had come up in the courts after 28 years. The demolition which caused several riots over the years in different parts of the country killed nearly 2,000 people. A special Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) court in Lucknow finally passed the judgement on this issue on Wednesday, 30th September.
All 32 accused were acquitted by the court, including senior BJP leaders such as LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Uma Bharti. The defence lawyer KK Mishra said that the accused were acquitted for lack of evidence presented to the court.
The accused appeared before the court around 10:30 a.m. for the judgement. BJP veterans did not appear in the courts concerning their age; hence 26 out of the 32 accused were present in the court on Wednesday. Nevertheless, the veterans and the senior leaders welcomed the court’s verdict.
