An RTI query issued by a resident of Hospet, a city in Karnataka revealed that during 2019-20, the Rajdhani Express has been the highest-revenue generating train in the South Western Railway zone.
The RTI was filed to enquire about the top 10 highest-grossing train in the South Western Railway (SWR) and the authorities of the department have responded to the query by revealing that Rajdhani Express has earned Rs 137 crore between 2019 and 20. The train is fully AC and runs between KSR Bengaluru city and H Nizamuddin. The superfast Rajdhani Express train covers 2,367 km in about 34 hours.
Bengaluru divisional railway manager, Ashok Kumar Verma said that the premium tickets for long-distance service and AC coaches as well as the convenient timings of Rajdhani can be the reasons behind its high earnings. Deepak U, who filed the RTI and is a rail-fan mentioned his curiosity in knowing about the trains that have maximum revenue. He added that the longest trains have the potential to have more earnings.
