Raymond Smith Richard from St Vincent Pallotti School located in Babusapalya has bagged the first position in the worldwide handwriting contest in the pre-teens category of the Functional Handwriting group.

A New York-based organization conducts the competition on a yearly basis. The event is named as Handwriting for Humanity. There are five categories for the competition and the winner gets a certificate and recognition at a global level.

Raymond’s mother is a calligraphy teacher and stated that he had dedicated more hours for the competition owing to the lockdown. She had also mentioned that he had been participating in the contest since grade three.

Raymond said that these ingredients for success were that he used to practice for at least one hour a day. He also forecasts his win for the next two years. If he wins for three consecutive years, he would be awarded the title of a lifetime winner.

He wishes to pursue astronomy and is also ambidextrous. He is keen on drawing and solving the Rubik’s cube.

Raymond’s source of motivation apart from his mother also comes from his father who’s an engineer and his little brother Ryan who is also pursuing his calligraphy skills and looking forward to a win in the next series of the competition.

Raymond is said to have an unflinching interest toward math and science. His mother stated that she would let her children use both their hands and scribble anywhere. She finds that it helps them unwind and let loose their creativity.
