The Hathras case has taken an ugly turn as the UP government and police continuously face opposition and outrage. The Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi after visiting the deceased victim’s family has remarked that Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath should have showcased the decency to call and treat the Hathras gang-rape case as a tragedy.

A 19-year old Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped and brutally assaulted by four upper-caste male who died after a battle for her life. Initially, the UP police denied to record a rape case in the FIR and further cremated the dead body of the girl at midnight without the consent and presence of the family. On hearing the petition which demanded a CBI probe into the case, the Supreme Court on Tuesday described the incident as “extraordinary” and “shocking”. The SC bench has also asked the UP govt to report the steps taken by the government to protect the witnesses by Wednesday.
