The BJP and JD(S) have finalized their alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. BJP leader and former chief minister BS Yediyurappa confirmed the agreement for four seats. JD(S) leader HD Deve Gowda recently met BJP chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, paving the way for this alliance. But, this alliance has been in the pipeline for quite some time.
2019 election failure
JD(S) had previously formed a government with Congress but lost a trust vote in 2019. They expressed their desire to contest in five constituencies, and the BJP agreed to allocate four seats: Kolar, Hassan, Mandya, and Bengaluru Rural.
This alliance comes after Deve Gowda stated that JD(S) would contest the elections independently, despite not being part of the opposition alliance INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance).
Winding it up
A meeting held at Deve Gowda’s residence gathered the opinions of party functionaries, with most favoring the alliance with the BJP. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, JD(S) secured victory in the Hassan constituency, where Deve Gowda’s grandnephew Prajwal Revanna was the candidate.
