The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) discontinued to issue metro tokens for contactless and cashless travel due to the pandemic and made contactless smart-cards mandatory for the commuters. But this mode is causing technical glitches reports commuters. Several complaints were reported as the daily travellers face trouble.
The metro services were resumed on September 7 by Namma Metro and the daily ridership has come down to 50,000 which is significantly less than before Covid times.
The smart-card users mention that it takes nearly an hour to show the recharged amount on the smart card and there are no facilities for the users to recharge using e-wallets such as Gpay or Paytm. These issues have led to a growing demand for tokens as a permit in the metro travel as it is more convenient. Some also insist on issuing paper tokens.
