The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence has been working for the welfare and recovery of war widows, wards of martyred soldiers as well as Ex-Servicemen, (ESM), particularly disabled by offering financial support for their established personal needs like penury grant, along with children’s education grant, funeral grant, as well as medical grant as well as an orphan or disabled children grant. This funding is provided through the AFFDF for which donations are obtained from the wider populace on the Armed Forces Flag Day (AFFD) which is celebrated every year on 7 December.
All citizens of India are asked to associate themselves with the cause of the war-widows, the ESM, the martyred soldiers’ offices and to make a generous contribution to AFFDF in solidarity with our soldiers and their Kin or dependents. Contributions to AFFDF are exempt from income tax according to Section 80G(5)(vi) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
Since the year of 1949, the 7th day of December has been celebrated as the Armed Forces Flag Day in the world to commemorate the martyrs as well as the military men who fought bravely on our boundaries to uphold the country’s commemoration. There could be no humbler cause than to lay down one’s life for the land. Around the same time, our respect for the martyrs does not mean that we have no time for the living heroes who have been injured while performing their service to their mother India or their wives along with kids whom they have left behind to find a way for themselves.
