Review meeting of the research and vaccine deployment ecosystem held

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has taken part in a summary meeting of the science and vaccine implementation environment against the COVID-19 pandemic, including monitoring technologies, touch tracing, medicines and therapeutics, etc.

The conference was held by Shri Harsh Vardhan who is the Union Health Minister; Member of  Health for NITI Aayog; also being Senior Scientific Advisor; high ranking scientists; as well as other officials.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the efforts made by Indian vaccine developers and manufacturers to address the COVID-19 challenge and pledged to continue to facilitate and support all such efforts by the Government.

The Prime Minister stated that regulatory reform was a dynamic process and that experts in all current and emerging fields should be proactively employed by regulators, as many new approaches have emerged.

The Prime Minister has taken note of the robust vaccine distribution and supply system of the Ministry of Health. This involves processes for proper sourcing and bulk storage technologies, bottle filling for shipment and ensuring successful supply.

Yesterday, Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi attended a review meeting taken for the research and vaccine deployment ecosystem to fight the coronavirus pandemic, which includes the test of technologies, along with contact tracing, drugs as well as therapeutics. Mr Modi was appreciative of the efforts made by Indian vaccine developers and manufacturers to resolve the COVID-19 problem and committed to continued government facilitation and funding for all such efforts.

The Prime Minister said that all sero surveys and assessments should be scaled up. He said that the facility to be checked routinely, easily and cheaply must be open to all at the earliest opportunity. He took stock of the Health Ministry’s comprehensive vaccine distribution and delivery mechanism. It requires processes for appropriate sourcing and bulk storage technologies, filling vials for shipment and ensuring successful supply.

Mr Modi also highlighted the need for continuous and rigorous scientific testing and validation of traditional medicines. He liked the idea of the Ministry of AYUSH to undertake evidence-based research and provide a workable alternative in this tough period.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the country’s determination to provide cost-effective, readily available and scalable alternatives for testing, vaccines and medicines, not just for India, but for the rest of the world.
