Inauguration of Food and Agri Week 2020

Shri Narendra Singh Tomar who is the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Food Processing Industries, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, practically inaugurated the India-International Food & Agri Week, which will take place from 16 to 22 October 2020.

Discussing the inaugural session, Shri Tomar has said the Indian food processing industry accounts for 32% of India’s food industry. He said that the focus of this agro-and food technology would be the use of technology in the food and agriculture sector to raise farmers ‘ incomes. He said that this is in line with the target set by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.

Speaking about the prospects of the food and agriculture industry, Shri Tomar stated that India’s agriculture and related economy are very robust. He further said efficient technology and state-of-the-art technology could lead to further growth of the agriculture sector and also that significant steps were taken in this path under the governance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

He continued that the GDP growth rate in agriculture is 3.4% and also that field has contributed immensely to India’s economic growth including during the Covid period. MoFPI has launched an advertising campaign called ‘Anna Devo Bhava’ to commemorate this day. He emphasised that, along with a growing understanding of the importance of food, we must also work on reducing food waste.

India’s food processing industry accounts for 32% of India’s food economy. The purpose of this agro-and food technology is therefore to adopt the new technology throughout the food and agriculture sectors. This will also help to boost farmers’ profits by 2022.

India’s agriculture as well as rural economy are very robust. Proper marketing and state-of-the-art technologies will contribute to greater growth in the agriculture sector. The GDP growth rate in agriculture is 3.4%. The agriculture sector also added to economic growth and development mostly during Covid era, 19 times.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has initiated this outreach program to observe the Food and Agri Week. Such a programme is designed to improve awareness of the importance of food and reduce food waste.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
