The political temperature in Karnataka continues to rise as speculation around Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stepping down refuses to fade. Adding fuel to the ongoing leadership buzz, former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai launched a sharp attack on Siddaramaiah, claiming the Congress leader is now “compromised”.
Bommai, who led the BJP government in Karnataka before the 2023 Assembly elections, questioned the Congress party’s repeated denial of any internal power struggle.
“Congress Never Tells the Truth”: Bommai
Speaking amid growing rumours of a leadership transition in the state, Bommai alleged that Siddaramaiah had “manipulated his way up” within politics and suggested that the Congress high command is hiding the real situation from the public.
Taking a dig at the party’s explanation regarding recent meetings in Delhi, Bommai questioned why senior leaders and ministers would spend several hours discussing only Rajya Sabha seats.
“Who will buy what Congress says? I don’t think there will be a smooth transfer of power,” Bommai remarked.
Delhi Meetings Trigger Leadership Speculation
The buzz intensified after senior Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and K. C. Venugopal, held marathon discussions in Delhi with Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar.
While Congress officially maintained that the meeting focused on upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, political observers believe the discussions may be linked to a possible leadership reshuffle in Karnataka.
What’s Happening Inside Congress?
According to reports, the Congress high command is reportedly exploring a transition plan that could move Siddaramaiah to the Rajya Sabha, while also considering a cabinet role for his son, Yathindra Siddaramaiah.
However, Siddaramaiah is believed to be reluctant to hand over the reins to DK Shivakumar, despite mounting pressure within the party.
